The Institute
The Korczak Institute for New Music is a Venice-based foundation whose goal is to support the work of young musicians.
Its name is a tribute to Janusz Korczak, Polish educationalist, writer and doctor of Jewish origin who died in the Holocaust, a man whose approach founded on working together, trust and non-violence has inspired generations of scholars.
The Korczak Institute for New Music’s philosophy is based on these same values and its starting point is a desire to introduce talented young musicians to the public and support their work.
Children are not the people of tomorrow, but people today. They are entitled to be taken seriously. They have a right to be treated by adults with tenderness and respect, as equals. They should be allowed to grow into whoever they were meant to be - The unknown person inside each of them is the hope for the future.

Why Venice?
Venice was chosen as the foundation’s base mainly on the grounds of the music and art which have always been such an important part of its life. The city has been home to a great many composers some of whom, such as Antonio Vivaldi, were born right here and spent most of their lives here.
Venice is also site of the world’s first public theatre, the famous Teatro San Cassiano, opened in 1637. Last but not least, it is home to the Venice Conservatory, a true institution in the Italian and international musical worlds, a further contributing factor. All this made Venice the obvious choice for our New Music Institute!
